My son, Nick, is an avid
outdoorsman. He hunts and fishes, he
camps, he scouts and observes, and he practices marksmanship.
During the 2012 Youth
Waterfowl Hunt this year, my husband was planning to be away and that left me
to accompany my son out to the pond.
For anyone who has not participated, this is a day set aside for an adult to take a child under 15 out to introduce them to the sport of Waterfowl Hunting.
Anyone who participated this
year will remember the beautiful weather and for me, a fair weather
outdoorswoman, this was a bonus. Of
course a true water fowler knows that cloudy, misty weather is usually better
for hunting ducks. (For those who do not
know, ducks fly higher when the sky is clear and blue.)
We arrived at Nick’s
carefully placed duck blind and the first thing he did was to offer me his
chair. The chair and all the weeds and
grass surrounding it were still very wet with dew. No problem!
My son offered me his backpack to put on the chair so that I could have
a dry place to sit.
And, that, is when I learned a few things.......(to be continued) This hunt turned out differently than it was "supposed to".
